Altus Lumberton Hospital Awarded CIHQ Accreditation and Medicare Deemed Status
Lumberton, TX, April 15th, 2020. Altus Lumberton Hospital has earned accreditation by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ).
Headquartered in McKinney, TX, CIHQ is a prestigious membership-based organization comprised primarily of acute care and critical access hospitals. The organization’s mission is to create a regulatory environment that evaluates healthcare organizations and enables them to deliver safe, quality patient care effectively.
Altus Lumberton Hospital obtained accreditation thanks to its continued compliance with CIHQ’s rigorous performance standards.
As part of the accreditation process, Altus Lumberton Hospital underwent a thorough, unannounced onsite review. During the surprise visit, a team of CIHQ reviewers evaluated compliance standards across several areas including, emergency management, the environment of care, as well as prevention and control of infections within the hospital grounds.
Aside from medical care compliance standards, CIHQ reviewers also evaluated administrative compliance standards involving leadership, medication management, and the outlined rights and responsibilities of the hospital staff.
As an accreditor entity, The Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality carries ongoing surveys of health care organizations that aim to protect the public. By identifying deficiencies in care, they can work with the accredited organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible.
As part of accreditation compliance, Altus Lumberton Hospital must inform patients or their surrogate decision-makers about their right to file a complaint regarding concerns about the quality of care or any perceived safety issues. Patients are not under any obligation to notify the hospital about their intent on filing a claim before they do so.
The process of receiving CIHQ accreditation is not an easy one. Organizations must successfully comply with the set standards of the accrediting body. Therefore, achieving such recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone at Altus.
“I am immensely proud of the teamwork and tireless efforts of the Altus Lumberton Hospital staff in achieving this milestone. Receiving this accreditation demonstrates the commitment across the Altus organization to fulfilling the CIHQ mission of raising the healthcare services for the residents of Hardin County to the highest level”. Altus President and CEO Kevin Herrington.
Receiving the accreditation from CIHQ is the first step in Altus Lumberton Hospital’s plan to expand its healthcare coverage in the area.
Through the accreditation with CIHQ, Altus Lumberton Hospital also received Medicare recognition effective March 30, 2020. Receiving the Medicare Deemd Status milestone is crucial to be able to provide quality and affordable service to all members of the community regardless of age.
Mr. Herrington went on to say, “After six years of providing top medical care in the area, we’ve come to understand the healthcare needs of the community. We are currently a small hospital, but we remain dedicated to sustaining and continuing the improvements we have made at Altus Lumberton Hospital by expanding according to the growing needs of our patients.”
